A few years ago there was little choice in what children were offered in the way of garden furniture, but now the choice is almost endless. Gone are the days when a half-size white plastic chair was all that was available.
Some of the best choices are dual purpose items. A swing seat or hammock, for example is both a seat and a play item for a child. If you are having an evening barbecue you can bring out a sleeping bag or light sheet and bed your child down for the evening on such a piece of furniture, that way they feel they're part of the evening but not getting overtired trying to stay awake. At the end of the party you can simply pick them up and pop them into bed indoors.
Pop up cabanas are similar, we see them as a simple and inexpensive sunshade for a small child, but to them it's a brightly coloured wigwam or hidey hole as wall as a sun shelter. They are also easy to pack away and very portable so you can take them to the park or the beach and keep your little ones cool and fresh.
While half size tables and chairs are cute, very few children actually like them. Consider instead buying a pair of nice side tables that match the rest of your garden furniture and a couple of sturdy washable bean bags - the kids can sit at a table on a bean bag and not feel that they've been fobbed off with 'dolls house furniture'
